SMART Shopper: It's Easy

1. Survey
If you want to buy things (especially electrical appliances), survey some places that sells the item that you would like to buy. Take notes of their discounts, perks (bonus items), functionality and of course, their prices.

2. Compare
As you take notes during your survey, make a comparison to the best of your choice, in terms of quality, quantity and cost. In this case, selecting the best choice is quite subjective. For some who doesn't compromised quality, they doesn't care about the prices as long as it could be use for a long time. However, some people prefers the cost of an item. The less the better, as long as they can use it. In some rare cases, people chose their items based on colors, shapes and even the size of the items.

3. Prepare a Checklist
Before you set out your journey to the valley of shopping complexes, prepare your checklist, a list of items that you would like to buy in a shopping mall. By doing this, you will not stray from your mission to fulfill your checklist. Other than that, you will be able to avoid overspending.

4. Set Your Range and Preferences
Another solution to avoid overspending is to set your maximum value of an item. For example, if you would like to buy a pair of new shoes. Think about how much could you afford, RM30.00 for example. So, during your survey, try to find shoes that is within your range. Cheaper is better if you finds something that you like, but don't buy something that is exceeding your limit. This could also be apply to your preferences. If you like a white shoes, just stick to it. Don't you try to look for any other colors. This could save time while you were shopping.

5. Record and Review
After you went out for shopping, the last step is to record your spending. Jot down every single cents you spends while you were shopping. From there, you could see how much did you spend. Does it comply with your range that you had set earlier? If it does, then, you ARE a SMART shopper. On the contrary, you might be a SHOPAHOLIC and need serious attentions.

If you think that you are a shopaholic, the best method to solve this problem is to meet with a financial advisor or counsellor. Hopefully, they will be able to solve your problem, in order to prevent your problem becomes much more bigger problem.
