Streamyx VS BroadBand

Streamyx and BroadBand.
Same objective, provides internet, however, differs in so many ways.

1. Connectivity
Streamyx, requires a telephone line to function (WIRED). BroadBand; doesn't have to (WIRELESS). It works using Plug & Play (PnP) function. Just install the driver; and it'll work. Streamyx also go through the same process, but it requires much more detail procedure. Which is easy and simple; where the manual are provided.

2. Connection Speed
This is a major issue in BroadBand. BroadBand can't sustain its speed; which influence by some factors; number of BroadBand users, distance to the tower, etc. Sometimes, the connectivity may be Too Strong; and some other time the signal might be Too Weak or No Connection at all; due to a high number of BroadBand Internet users. This, has never happens to Streamyx.

3. Data Transfer Limitation
This has something to do with the Connection Speed. Every BroadBand user, as far as I know, is provided with certain data transfer limit. Once this limit is reach, then, the connection speed will drop down to unacceptable amount. This is why, usually, in the beginning of every month, the speed is HIGH and gradually becomes LOW as the time passes, accordingly to the frequency of its usage. Once again, this has never happes to Streamyx.

4. Portability
In terms of portability, BroadBand wins in this category. You can use the BroadBand device, anywhere and everywhere. As long as there is internet connection in the surrounding area. Even though Streamyx have also portable wireless modem, it can't provide a high speed internet connection.

5. Power Supply
As the Streamyx modem is big and bulky, it requires a high amount of power supply. That's the reason why it has their own power cable. On the other end, BroadBand doesn't require power plug as it is very small and has cool design. It just need miniscule amount of power supply from the USB port in order to function.
If only I buy a BroadBand, I'll buy this one. Just because I am a Maxis user. [source]
As for conclusions, Streamyx and BroadBand have their own pros and cons. One may provides portability, and the other maybe not. One may have sustainability and the other maybe not. This shows that, we can't have it both ways, but hopefully, someday, we will.

Foot Note:
1. WiMAX is also an option, but someday it'll become just like BroadBand.
2. For those who doesn't have telephone line, Streamyx is also possible.
3. LAN Streamyx (WIRED) is better than WIRELESS Streamyx.
4. Please share if you have any other useful info.
5. Correct me if I am wrong in this.

although i do get what you mean, you did some mistakes regarding the term to refer the devices and method itself.

its should be "Wired Internet Access vs Wireless Internet Access"

Internet connection refers to method which users connect to the internet, it can be dial-up, ADSL, Cable, Wifi, Wimax, Fiber or even satellite.

Broadband refers to the signal of bandwidth itself, not the medium it transfer (wired or wirelessly). Broadband means Wider, or Broad signal it can carries, thus lead to higher data it can carry and faster speed. Usually, back in 8 years before (i can't believe its already that long) broadband was used to differentiate between dial-up and adsl.

However, most of retailer in Malaysia don't even bother to learn all these terms and provider don't even have any time to teach them, which absolutely bad for company's image. I can't imagine how many laugh we're getting now by foreigner. We can't play simple with all this terms, its global and international, and if we don't care, simply don't push up with the technology.

hahaha...
i knew you would comment on this...
so, thanks...

i knew all those terms though...
its just that the topic reflects on both internet access...
easier for people to differentiate...
i guess...

but what u said is also true...
people don't care/want to learn all those info..
they just want to use it...
this thing happens not only in terms of technology...
but also in many other areas...
and this happens becoz people don't read...
which is not a good culture...

ps: i changed the first term, connectivity seems fits...
